Friendship Awaits

How far does friendship reach?
Can it pass over mountains?
Withstand time?

Will it find me in my desperate hours,
When I feel alone?

Can its words reach my ears
And comfort my despairs?

Shall it hold me and say to me:
"Fear not, for I am here"?

Does it know who I really am
And love me just for that?

All these questions I do ask
But answers I need none

For friendship's worth cannot be judged
By the mountains it has climbed
Nor by the time it waited for me
No, the true question I should ask
Lies more within myself:

How far would I reach
For a friend?

It is only then that I can know
How much it means to me

And from that point
And that point alone
I find friendship
Waiting for me
